Footballer Arrested After Violent Elbow in Welsh Match

A 35-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of assault following an incident during a football match in Wales on Saturday. Trearddur Bay FC confirmed they have released player Tom Taylor after a video showed him elbowing an opponent in the face during their match against CPD Porthmadog.

The footage, shared on X, sparked outrage, with many calling for a lifetime ban. North Wales Police said: 'Officers have been making enquiries to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident. As part of this investigation a 35-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of assault. He remains in police custody at this time.'

Trearddur Bay FC released a statement saying: 'Following an internal review, the decision was taken to release the suspended player involved with immediate effect. Trearddur Bay Football Club does not condone violence in any form and acknowledges that the incident should not have occurred.' The club apologised to the opposition player, CPD Porthmadog, match officials, and supporters.

The Welsh FA confirmed it is aware of the incident and will review it, as tier three matches fall under its jurisdiction. Porthmadog won the match 3-2.
