Exeter City's League One match against Burton Albion, scheduled for Saturday, has been postponed following a fire at St James Park. The blaze last Wednesday caused significant damage to the stadium's control room, leaving the ground unsafe for the fixture.
The fire also damaged the electricity supply to the Adam Stansfield Stand, along with the public address and fire alarm systems. First aid facilities and internal computer networks were affected, according to the club.
Repair work began earlier this week, with Exeter launching a crowdfunding appeal to cover costs while awaiting an insurance claim. Despite efforts from staff, volunteers and local businesses, the necessary repairs and safety checks could not be completed in time.
A club statement said: "Saturday's fixture against Burton Albion has unfortunately been postponed after discussions with the Safety Advisory Group. Despite the extraordinary efforts of club staff, volunteers and local businesses, we are unable to complete the extensive repairs required." The club thanked supporters and said a new date would be confirmed in due course.
Exeter, who lost 2-1 at Leyton Orient in their last match, sit 20th in League One with five wins from 16 games. Their next scheduled match is a trip to Bradford City in 10 days, followed by cup fixtures against Luton Town and Wycombe Wanderers.
