Former Manchester United winger Antony and Manchester United transfer target Alex Scott were both shown red cards during a pre-season friendly between Bournemouth and Real Betis.
Incident sparks brawl
The altercation began when Bournemouth defender Bafode Diakate fouled Real Betis midfielder Nelson Deossa. Deossa responded by kicking the ball at Diakate from close range, sparking anger among Bournemouth players. Deossa received a yellow card, but the situation escalated when Antony confronted the Bournemouth players.
Antony was involved in a pushing match with Scott, and the referee showed both players straight red cards. At the time, Bournemouth were leading 1-0, but with both teams reduced to 10 men, the match ended in a 2-2 draw.
Manager also dismissed
It emerged at half-time that Bournemouth's new manager Marco Rose was also shown a red card and was forced to watch the second half from the press box.
United's interest in Scott
Manchester United may have been closely watching the incident, as they have been linked with a transfer interest in Scott during the current window. The Bournemouth midfielder is one of the options United are considering to strengthen their midfield.
However, United face competition from Chelsea, who have already had an offer turned down. The Blues reportedly bid £64 million for the England international, but Bournemouth have a clear 'not for sale' stance.
United's midfield plans
Michael Carrick has already strengthened his midfield options this summer with the arrivals of Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans. United are keen to add a third new midfielder before the end of the transfer window.
In addition to Scott, United have been linked with moves for Aurelien Tchouameni, Manu Kone, and Carlos Baleba.
Antony's time at United
Antony failed to make a significant impact during his three years at United. He joined from Ajax in 2022 and scored 12 goals in 96 appearances before joining Real Betis on loan in January 2025. He became a fan favourite in Spain and completed a permanent move away from Old Trafford last summer.
