John Ellis, the former caddie of Wyndham Clark, has opened up about the end of their professional partnership, insisting there is no animosity between them. Ellis had been with Clark since his university days at the University of Oregon and was by his side when he won the 2023 US Open.
Speaking on the Gravy & The Sleeze radio show, Ellis explained that the decision to part ways was driven by a desire to preserve their friendship. “When things aren’t going great, and I care more about Wyndham and I’s friendship… Something had to give. I felt like it was just time, maybe a different voice for both of us would help,” he said.
Ellis emphasised that they remain on good terms, texting regularly. “There’s no hatred for Wyndham and I. We’re still friends, we texted yesterday, it’s all good,” he added. The split comes after a difficult period for Clark, who has not won since 2024 and was left out of the Ryder Cup team.
Clark’s frustrations boiled over at the 2024 US Open at Oakmont Country Club, where he damaged two lockers after missing the cut. Ellis stood by him throughout the controversy. For the upcoming Valspar Championship, Clark will be working with caddie Dave Pelekoudas, who previously filled in for Ellis when he was ill at the Arnold Palmer Invitational.
