Everton weigh up move for Man United's Ethan Wheatley

The ECHO understands Everton are weighing up a move for Manchester United forward Ethan Wheatley. The 20-year-old England youth international is a target, though proposals are not yet at an advanced stage and any switch would initially be designed to strengthen the club's academy.

Wheatley, from Stockport, progressed through Manchester United's youth system and was part of the side that won the Under-18s English Youth League. He has spent time out on loan in the Football League with Walsall, Northampton and Bradford City.

Academy investment continues

Everton have already looked to bring in young talent for Finch Farm, with 16-year-old forward Kai Hutchison arriving from Dundee United this summer. That continues a recent trend, which previously brought Braiden Graham to the club from Linfield two years ago. The Northern Ireland youth international received his first senior call-up during the summer and has been involved in all four of Everton's pre-season friendlies, including the first of a double-header in Germany against Hamburg.

Right-back options explored

Everton remain in the market for a new right-back. Celtic manager Martin O'Neill confirmed on Friday that David Moyes has spoken with him about Alistair Johnston, one of several options being considered.
