Everton vs Newcastle: Nine Players Could Miss Cup Clash

Up to nine players could be absent from Everton's Carabao Cup tie against Newcastle United, with David Moyes awaiting news on whether three of his stars will be available. The Toffees host Newcastle on Thursday before travelling to St James' Park four days later for a Premier League meeting.

Moyes Awaits Fitness Updates

Moyes was without Jack Grealish and Jarrad Branthwaite for Everton's defeat to Arsenal. The on-loan Manchester City star missed the match due to illness, while Branthwaite continued his return protocol from concussion. The defender suffered the injury when he collided with Emi Martinez during the clash with Chelsea, and his availability will depend on his progress through protocols.

Vitalii Mykolenko is another concern after he was withdrawn during the Premier League loss to Arsenal. Moyes was unable to shed light on the defender's condition at full-time of that match.

Newcastle's Selection Concerns

Newcastle have their own worries, with doubt surrounding Matias Fernandez-Pardo and Lewis Miley, who are both hoping to feature in the matchday squad. Miley was unavailable for the Crystal Palace fixture due to a glute problem, while Fernandez-Pardo was ruled out through illness.

"These two players are still doubts and question marks if they can make it," Jaissle said. "Still two days to decide if they are able to be in the squad but we don't want to take any additional risk."

Rehabilitation and Return Timelines

Tino Livramento remains in rehabilitation and could be back in contention 'soon', while Ewen Jaouen is ruled out with a hamstring injury expected to sideline him until December. Mattias Jaissle was tight-lipped about whether Anthony Elanga and Jacob Ramsey could start after both came off the bench at the weekend against Crystal Palace.

"Again, without picking now already the starting XI and telling you, both of them making progress day by day," he said. "You see their physicality is getting better and better. When there's the time to start, I will not tell you right now, but the progress is obviously to see."
