Eddie Howe remains the bookmakers' favourite to replace Michael Carrick as Manchester United boss should he be relieved of his duties.
Carrick's position remains under heavy scrutiny after United were beaten 2-0 by Chelsea on Saturday afternoon.
Defeat at Stamford Bridge
The side were actually slightly improved somewhat in the first half at Stamford Bridge, but things unravelled after the break as Morgan Rogers opened the scoring with a fine solo effort and Lisandro Martinez was shown a pair of yellow cards less than two minutes apart.
Cole Palmer scored from the spot to make it 2-0, but United were lucky not to lose by a wider margin as Estevao saw two goals chalked off for hairline offside decisions.
Carrick's Position and Potential Replacements
It is not yet clear whether United plan to dispense with Carrick, after they decided this week to give him the chance to turn things around.
Should they look to chop and change, though, the former Newcastle manager Howe is the bookies' favourite to take his place. Reports suggest he has been doing his research on the team as he prepares for a potential call-up.
Meanwhile, United's hesitance to get rid of Carrick has reportedly seen the compensation owed to Newcastle drop from £6m to just £3m.

Also high on the list of runners and riders is former Germany and Bayern Munich boss Julian Nagelsmann and ex-Napoli gaffer Antonio Conte.
