Trump Jokes About Keeping World Cup Trophy During White House Visit

Donald Trump joked about keeping the World Cup trophy during a visit from FIFA President Gianni Infantino to the White House on Friday. The former US president held the trophy and asked Infantino if he could keep it, saying it would fit on the wall 'right below the angels'.

Infantino, who brought the trophy for a special announcement, told Trump that the prize is 'only for winners' and must be preserved for the winners of the next World Cup. He added that only the FIFA president, heads of state, and winners are allowed to touch it.

Instead, Infantino gave Trump the first ticket to the World Cup Final, numbered 45/47, matching his numbers as US president. The visit was to announce that the draw for the 2026 men's World Cup will take place at the Kennedy Center in Washington, DC, on December 5.

Trump, wearing a red 'Trump was right about everything' hat, described the 2026 tournament as 'the largest, most complex set of events in sports history'. The World Cup will run from June 11 to July 19 in the US, Mexico, and Canada.

Trump also joked about playing for US Soccer but noted that his youngest son, Barron, is a great athlete.
