Novak Djokovic will confront the intense afternoon heat at the French Open on Wednesday as the 24-time grand slam champion takes on Valentin Royer in his second-round match. The 39-year-old third seed has been scheduled as the third match on Court Philippe-Chatrier, meaning he may face the hottest part of the day as temperatures continue to soar in Paris.
Djokovic's Path to the Second Round
Djokovic recovered from losing the opening set against big-serving Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard in his first-round match, which was played under the lights in the night session. For his second-round encounter, the Serbian star will face another Frenchman in Royer, a 24-year-old ranked 74th in the world. Djokovic may have preferred another night session, but that slot has been allocated to Alexander Zverev, who faces Tomas Machac.
When Does Djokovic Play?
Play on Court Philippe-Chatrier begins at 11am BST (UK time). The first match features four-time Roland Garros champion Iga Swiatek against Sara Bejlek. Swiatek is known for quick victories in Paris and is the overwhelming favourite. The second match pits seventh seed Elina Svitolina, the current Rome champion, against Kaitlin Quevedo. Svitolina required a marathon three-setter to beat Anna Bondar in the first round but has a more favourable matchup this time. Djokovic could therefore take to the court around 2pm BST, though the timing may vary depending on the duration of the preceding matches.
