Liverpool legend Dirk Kuyt has sparked speculation about cosmetic surgery after appearing with a markedly different appearance during a punditry stint on Dutch television. The 45-year-old, who retired in 2018, was seen with a slicked-back hairstyle and facial hair, a contrast to his iconic blonde curls and clean-shaven look from his playing days.
Fans on social media joked that he resembled a trendy hipster, with some suggesting he had undergone a facelift. However, Kuyt denied having cosmetic work, explaining that he had eyelid surgery for medical reasons. 'What I did have was eyelid surgery on both eyes. That was necessary because when I was tired or had a glass of wine, my eyelids would droop,' he said.
Kuyt also made headlines in June 2020 when he announced his divorce from his wife, Gertrude, after 22 years of marriage. He described it as 'the most painful stage of his life' and temporarily stepped away from his coaching role at Feyenoord's Under-19s.
After a playing career that included 71 goals in 286 games for Liverpool, Kuyt moved into management. He was appointed by Belgian side Beerschot in December 2023, guiding them to promotion but was sacked in June 2025 after a poor run. He now manages second-tier Dutch side FC Dordrecht.
