Davide Ancelotti, the 36-year-old son of legendary coach Carlo Ancelotti, has been appointed as the new manager of Lille, signing a two-year contract. He takes over from Bruno Génésio, whose contract was not renewed despite guiding the club to a third-place finish in Ligue 1, securing a return to the Champions League.
Lille president Olivier Letang expressed confidence in the younger Ancelotti, stating: 'Davide is a consummate professional, possessing all the qualities and skills of a modern coach. I have known him for many years and have closely followed his progress at the highest level.'
Ancelotti brings extensive experience as an assistant coach, having worked alongside his father at Bayern Munich, Napoli, Everton, Real Madrid, and the Brazil national team. He left the Brazil setup in July 2025, with his father now preparing to lead the Selecao into the World Cup.
His only previous head coaching role was a brief five-month stint at Botafogo last year, which ended in dismissal. He also served as a fitness coach at Paris Saint-Germain over 13 years ago during his father's tenure.
Lille's return to the Champions League follows a season in which they reached the Europa League round of 16 under Génésio, before being eliminated by eventual champions Aston Villa.
