Coventry City's hold on the Championship summit weakened further as they squandered an early lead to lose 2-1 at Queens Park Rangers. Josh Eccles put the Sky Blues ahead in the first half, but second-half strikes from Richard Kone and Nicolas Madsen secured a comeback victory for the hosts.
The defeat leaves Coventry level on points with Middlesbrough, who extended their winning run to four matches with a 1-0 victory over Norwich City. Hayden Hackney's long-range effort in the 17th minute proved decisive at the Riverside Stadium, ending Norwich's four-game winning streak.
Frank Lampard admitted his side's confidence has been affected after a run of poor away form. Coventry have now gone eight matches on the road without a win, including five defeats. “Up until the middle of December we were a very confident team, winning games, and it affects everybody,” Lampard said. “We have two home games coming up, and the only way to go through any lack of confidence is to work and fight your way out of it.”
Hull City moved within five points of the top after a 1-0 win at Blackburn Rovers, courtesy of a debut goal from loan signing Lewis Koumas. The 20-year-old, signed from Liverpool on Friday, came off the bench to slot home the winner in the 81st minute.
Elsewhere, Ipswich Town rescued a point against Preston North End with a stoppage-time penalty from Jack Clarke, while Millwall shared a 1-1 draw with Sheffield United. Wrexham beat Sheffield Wednesday 1-0, and Swansea City won 2-0 at Watford to boost their promotion hopes.
