Hungarian police have made arrests after Arsenal and Paris Saint-Germain supporters clashed in a mass brawl in Budapest early on Saturday morning, hours before the Champions League final. Officers are reviewing footage of the violence as they seek to identify more of those involved.
The altercation took place at around 00:20 local time in Király Street, in the city's 7th district. Several videos posted on social media show fans fighting and setting off flares. Police have launched proceedings against unknown perpetrators on suspicion of gang violence and are analysing camera recordings.
Deputy National Police Chief Zoltán János Kuczik said approximately 4,000 officers will be deployed on Saturday, describing it as the largest single-day police operation in Hungary's history. Tens of thousands of ticketless supporters from both clubs are expected to be in the city.
A British man and two Portuguese nationals were arrested after an altercation at the fan festival site and charged with disorderly conduct. A second Briton was also detained after climbing onto the roof of a parked car.
The Champions League final kicks off at 5pm BST, with Arsenal facing the reigning European champions PSG. PSG are the first holders to reach the final since Real Madrid in 2017 and are aiming to become the second team to retain the trophy in the modern era.
