Mosquera’s last-gasp own goal hands Arsenal dramatic win against luckless Wolves

Arsenal snatched a dramatic 2-1 victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday, with Yerson Mosquera's stoppage-time own goal securing the points for the Premier League leaders. The result came after Wolves had fought back to equalise in the 89th minute, leaving the Emirates Stadium stunned before the late twist.

Wolves, who had the worst league record after 15 matches in English football history with just two points, produced a spirited performance that belied their lowly position. They frustrated Arsenal for much of the game, with goalkeeper Sam Johnstone's unfortunate own goal on 70 minutes giving the hosts the lead. Johnstone misjudged Bukayo Saka's corner, inadvertently turning the ball into his own net.

Wolves refused to capitulate and equalised through substitute Tolu Arokodare, who headed home from Mateus Mané's cross. However, deep into stoppage time, Saka's cross was turned in by Mosquera under pressure from Gabriel Jesus, sparking wild celebrations among the home fans.

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta admitted his side's performance was below par, particularly their defensive display in the closing stages. 'We had a period of two or three minutes deep, totally passive, with horrible defensive habits,' he said. 'That is nowhere near the level required. We are relieved because we managed to score at the end, but we need to improve.'

The win moved Arsenal two points clear at the top of the table, applying pressure on Manchester City ahead of their match against Crystal Palace. For Wolves, it was another cruel defeat, with manager Rob Edwards left to rue his side's inability to hold on for a deserved point.
