Classic Sci-Fi Horror 'The Predator' Airs Tonight on E4

Sci-fi enthusiasts are in for a treat as the 2018 horror film The Predator returns to screens tonight at 10pm on E4. Described by one fan as "E.T meets Scary Movie meets Terminator meets Road Trip," the movie promises a blend of humour, action, and classic sci-fi thrills.

About the Film

The Predator is a 2018 sequel and fresh chapter in the long-running Predator franchise. Directed by Shane Black, who also appeared in the original 1987 film alongside Arnold Schwarzenegger, the story kicks off when a Predator spacecraft crashes on Earth. Army Ranger sniper Quinn McKenna and his squad encounter the alien during a hostage rescue mission. After stopping the Predator, Quinn secretly mails pieces of its armour as evidence of extraterrestrial life.

Government operative Will Traeger detains Quinn for questioning, while the captured Predator is transported to a laboratory for research. Evolutionary scientist Casey Bracket is brought in to examine the alien and discovers traces of human DNA within its genetic structure.

Before long, the Predator regains consciousness, breaks free from confinement, and violently kills the scientists and security personnel in the facility. However, it chooses not to harm Casey, as she is the only unarmed person present, and then escapes the lab. As chaos and bloodshed continue, it becomes apparent that the Predator cannot be easily tamed.

Cast and Reception

Although The Predator features a stellar cast, including Sterling K. Brown, Boyd Holbrook, and Olivia Munn, it failed to find box-office success at the time. According to reports, the film had a disappointing run at the box office, failing to comfortably reach the break-even point. However, with a gross of $160 million worldwide, it is technically the highest-grossing entry in the core Predator franchise.

Fans have written favourable reviews on Rotten Tomatoes. One viewer wrote: "So glad I ignored the humourless haters. This movie is hilarious with a ton of sci-fi action. Great cinematography. Fantastic cast. Overall, just a ton of fun! Instant classic! Miss this at your own peril."

Another added: "Great cast, fun dialogue and decent script. In my opinion, second best movie in the franchise after Badlands…they keep getting better like the sister franchise Alien!"

A third chimed: "The quality was good, as well as the concept. Obviously different from the original, but stayed on topic, had great actors and scenes and overall a good movie. Can't wait for the next Predator movie!"

Catch The Predator tonight at 10pm on E4.
