Jeremy Clarkson has revealed that he and his partner, Lisa Hogan, suffered a tragic loss on their Oxfordshire farm just before Christmas. The former Top Gear host wrote in his column for The Times that Hogan's 26-year-old horse, Bertie, had died.
Clarkson, 63, described the event as 'not a fun event, even for me'. He said he was upset because he could see Hogan was distressed and because he would have to deal with the aftermath. The couple first learned something was wrong when they were told Bertie was lying on his side in a stream. By the time Clarkson reached the horse, it had already passed away.
In his column, Clarkson predicted that Bertie's death might not be the only misfortune during the festive period, joking that a cow might be hit by a car, a sheep might self-combust, or a fox might raid the henhouse. Despite the sadness, he noted he was enjoying time on his farm, Diddly Squat, with his new granddaughter.
The news comes after Clarkson announced a fourth season of his Amazon Prime show, Clarkson's Farm. To celebrate, he and co-star Kaleb Cooper attempted to use sheep to spell the Roman numeral for four, but initially spelled six due to a placement error. They eventually succeeded with the help of camera tricks.
