Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid has praised Travis Kelce’s “passion” after the pair were involved in a sideline exchange for the second consecutive week. The incident occurred in the second quarter of the Chiefs’ 22-9 victory over the New York Giants on Sunday night, with Reid bumping the tight end’s shoulder as they argued.
Kelce finished the game with four receptions for 26 yards, as the Chiefs’ offense continued to struggle in the first half. The tight end was not available for comment after the match, but Reid dismissed any concerns about the confrontation. “I love Travis’s passion, man,” Reid said. “I’m OK with that. We didn’t have enough of it in the second quarter.”
The Chiefs had lost their opening two games of the season, a downturn for a team that has won its division every year since 2016. Last week, in a loss to the Philadelphia Eagles, Kelce yelled at Reid and threw his helmet to the ground. Quarterback Patrick Mahomes defended the relationship, saying, “He’s a guy that loves it. That’s what’s made him so great. I know they love each other.”
Kelce, who turns 36 this season, is considered one of the greatest tight ends of all time but appears past his peak. He was involved in a similar incident during the Super Bowl in February 2024, when he barged into Reid after being taken out of the game. Kelce later admitted his behaviour was out of line, saying, “If he would have cold cocked me in the face right there, I would have just ate it.”
