Manchester United travel to Chelsea today looking to end a winless run that dates back to August. Manager Michael Carrick was thought to be on the brink of the sack after overseeing eight straight matches without a victory, but he has been retained for this trip to Stamford Bridge.
Team news and recent form
The Red Devils were thrashed by Bournemouth last weekend, following up their 4-1 Champions League defeat by Cesc Fabregas' Como. That European loss saw Bruno Fernandes criticise his head coach's tactical approach, comments that led to the Portuguese international being benched for the Bournemouth match, where he was an unused substitute at Old Trafford.
Since then, the No8 has held clear-the-air talks with his manager, and Carrick confirmed on Thursday that Fernandes would return to the squad for the visit to the capital.
Chelsea's recent setbacks
Chelsea are coming off an agonising penalty shootout defeat by Liverpool in the Carabao Cup, with Wesley Fofana skying the decisive spot-kick at Anfield. Xabi Alonso's men are also reeling from a shock 2-0 home defeat by Tottenham last time out, where Cole Palmer was sent off. He is likely to return here, having served his one-game suspension in midweek.
