Chelsea sign USA winger Alyssa Thompson from Angel City for £1.1m

Chelsea Women have completed the signing of United States winger Alyssa Thompson from Angel City for an upfront fee of just under $1.5m (£1.1m), with potential add-ons that could make it a world-record transfer. The deal was finalised on transfer deadline day in the Women’s Super League, with just over an hour to spare before the window closed at 11pm.

The 20-year-old underwent a medical in London on Thursday after flying from Los Angeles late on Wednesday night, following extensive negotiations between the two clubs. Thompson has signed a five-year contract with Chelsea.

The current world record fee for a women's footballer is $1.5m, paid by Orlando Pride last month for Lizbeth Ovalle from Tigres. Chelsea's move for Thompson is not a world-record fee upfront but could surpass it with add-ons.

On a busy deadline day, London City Lionesses signed Barcelona youngster Lucía Corrales after meeting her release clause of around €500,000 (£435,000). Their attempt to sign France midfielder Grace Geyoro from Paris Saint-Germain went down to the wire, with no clear agreement by the deadline.

Grace Clinton moved to Manchester City on a four-year deal, while Jess Park went to Manchester United on a similar contract. Liverpool added midfielder Emilia Szymczak on loan from Barcelona, striker Beata Olsson from Kristianstads DFF, full-back Alejandra Bernabé from Chelsea, and right-back Risa Shimizu on loan from Manchester City.

Tottenham signed Norway forward Cathinka Tandberg from Hammarby, while Leicester brought in Australia midfielder Emily van Egmond from Birmingham on a two-year deal.
