Chelsea suffered their sixth consecutive Premier League defeat, losing 3-1 to Nottingham Forest at Stamford Bridge in a match overshadowed by a serious head injury to teenager Jesse Derry on his full senior debut.
The 18-year-old winger was taken to hospital for precautionary tests after an accidental clash of heads with Forest's Zach Abbott. The incident occurred in the first half, with Derry having won a penalty for Chelsea before his injury.
Taiwo Awoniyi opened the scoring for a much-changed Forest side, before Igor Jesus doubled their lead from the spot. Cole Palmer missed the penalty won by Derry, and Forest sealed the win through a second-half goal from substitute Dilane Bakwa.
Chelsea striker Joao Pedro admitted: 'We need to find a way to try to not do these mistakes every game. Everyone needs to look at themselves – me included. I feel sorry for the fans.'
Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher was scathing: 'There's no connection between the players and the staff, the players and the fans. They look like a broken football club right now.'
Forest goalkeeper Matz Sels praised his team's performance: 'The gaffer brings a lot of positive energy. This win is massive for us.' Forest are now unbeaten in 10 games and take a one-goal lead into their Europa League semi-final second leg against Aston Villa.
