Chelsea returned to winning ways in the Premier League with a 2-0 victory over 10-man Manchester United at Stamford Bridge, heaping more misery on Michael Carrick's side.
After a goalless first half in west London, Morgan Rogers scored a brilliant opener before Lisandro Martinez was sent off for a foul on Wesley Fofana. That handed Chelsea a penalty, which Cole Palmer converted to earn Xabi Alonso's side a much-deserved three points.
Standout Performances
Romeo Lavia was named Chelsea's man of the match, putting in a huge shift in the middle of the park, and his interception led to the opening goal. Josh Acheampong was described as Chelsea's most alert defender, making several vital challenges, while Mike Penders made a couple of important saves, including a stunning stoppage-time effort pushed against the crossbar.
Estevao, handed his first league start under Alonso, constantly tried to make things happen and had two goals disallowed, while Morgan Rogers scored a sensational opener to break the deadlock. Cole Palmer added his 50th Premier League goal for Chelsea from the penalty spot.
Player Ratings
Wesley Fofana was rated 4/10, the worst player in a Chelsea shirt once again, though he improved in the second half after a first 45 minutes that exposed him defensively. Marco Palestra, on his first start in all competitions, received a 5/10 for poor pace and positioning.
Levi Colwill (6) got his head to a few crosses and was disciplined defensively, Pedro Neto (6) worked hard starting as a No9 before moving to the right flank, and Moises Caicedo (6) was solid in midfield. Among the substitutes, Pep Chavarria (5) played to Palmer, who should have scored but blazed over.
