Chelsea 2-0 Man Utd: Carrick pressure grows as winless run hits nine

Manchester United were beaten 2-0 by Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, extending their winless run to nine matches for the first time since 1988 and piling fresh pressure on manager Michael Carrick.

Carrick had been on the brink after last week's defeat by Bournemouth but was handed the chance to turn results around after crisis talks with the club's executives.

He was unable to do so as Chelsea cruised to victory, with Lisandro Martinez sent off after collecting a brace of yellow cards.

Second-half collapse

United had been the better side in the first half but capitulated after Morgan Rogers' fine solo effort opened the scoring in the second period.

Chelsea later added a second from the penalty spot through Cole Palmer, while Estevao saw two goals ruled out for marginal offsides.

Pressure mounts on Carrick

The defeat leaves United winless in nine games across all competitions, a run not seen at the club since 1988.

Carrick's position now looks increasingly uncertain following the latest damaging loss in west London.
