Former Sky Sports presenter Charlotte Jackson Coleman has swapped the studio lights for the big screen, making her lead acting debut in the psychological thriller Secrets, released on Prime Video on August 19. The 47-year-old, married to former Wales manager Chris Coleman, plays single mum Sammy, who becomes entangled in a dark web of family secrets after a brutal murder rocks her hometown.
Jackson was one of Sky Sports’ best-known presenters, regularly interviewing Premier League stars and covering major football events. In 2009, she made history by presenting Lionel Messi with his first Ballon d’Or, a moment she recalls vividly. “I did love my job. It's not until I look back and think, ‘oh my God, I did that’,” she told The Sun.
Her broadcasting career also included fronting the primetime adventure show 71 Degrees North alongside Paddy McGuinness in 2010. However, during the Covid pandemic, Jackson decided to pursue her original passion for acting. She retrained, took on small independent projects, and gradually built a new career from scratch.
The transition was challenging. “Auditions were emotionally draining and the early jobs paid very little,” she said. “But I knew I had to keep going.” Her persistence paid off with Secrets, which she describes as both exhilarating and exhausting. The film has drawn comparisons to Netflix hit Fool Me Once.
Jackson credits a chance encounter with former Lionsgate UK chief Nick Manzi, who nicknamed her “One Take Jackson” after a cameo in Keith Lemon: The Film, for giving her the confidence to pursue acting seriously. She later trained in China while her husband managed Hebei China Fortune, earning a Best Actress nomination at the Romford Film Festival for a short film.
Reflecting on her career shift, Jackson said: “I think things happen for a reason. I’ve had a great career already, and now I finally get to do what I’ve always wanted.”
