Celtic's 20 summer exits: How the old Bhoys are faring

Celtic raised close to £50 million from player sales over the summer, with 20 first-team players heading for the exit. Just four new faces arrived in time for the £40m Champions League showdown with LASK, before another late-window scramble brought in six more players, most of them on loan, as Martin O'Neill tried to fill the gaps.

Record Sport takes a look at how the old Bhoys are getting on at their new clubs.

Goalkeeper and Defensive Departures

Stephen Welsh has been a regular for table-topping Swansea City, playing every Championship game so far and earning international recognition with Scotland. Hayato Inamura sealed a permanent return to the J-League with FC Tokyo after a loan stint and has started most games at centre-back, with his side third in the table.

Julian Araujo's loan at Celtic was cut short due to injury, and after a couple of pre-season outings for Bournemouth, he sustained another setback that forced him to undergo thigh surgery.

Midfield and Forward Moves

Arne Engels clinched a £25m move to West Ham late in August and has started every Championship game, producing four assists, as the Hammers look to bounce back to the top-flight. Reo Hatate joined Burnley in the summer and has started brightly with a goal and two assists, but the Clarets are third bottom of the Championship.

Daizen Maeda sealed a £10m move to the Premier League with Ipswich Town and bagged his first goal for the club in a 3-2 defeat at Man City. The newly-promoted Tractor Boys sit 10th in the table. Kelechi Iheanacho has scored 15 times in 11 games for Turkish second-tier club Bursaspor, with three assists, having started every game.

Luis Palma landed a permanent £3m switch to Lech Poznan after impressing on loan last season, with four assists and a goal so far. Johnny Kenny was sold for £3m on deadline day and has scored two for Preston. Paulo Bernardo was loaned to Gornik Zabrze, where he has become a key player for the Ekstraklasa leaders, with an option for a permanent move next summer.

Loans and Other Exits

Shin Yamada has yet to score in six appearances since joining Oud-Heverlee Leuven on loan. Michel-Ange Balikwisha moved to Gent on loan and has one assist in eight outings.
