Celtic fans urge Desmond to spend after 7-1 Hearts rout

The weekend's Scottish Premiership action has left a trail of debate, with Celtic's emphatic 7-1 victory over Hearts at the centre of fan discussions. The result comes months after Hearts were minutes away from a historic league title, and has prompted calls for Celtic's principal shareholder Dermot Desmond to invest further in the squad.

Fans Call for Investment After Vintage Display

Denis Bruce from Bishopbriggs described the performance as reminiscent of a Celtic side from a bygone era, urging Desmond to provide the funds for quality additions. He said: "Finally Celtic fans were treated to a feast of vintage Celtic football with fast flowing creative play at pace by two wingers capable of skinning the Hearts' defence."

Bruce added: "It was delightful to watch a domestic game but in Europe to be competitive, the team still needs a midfield enforcer with a stiffening of the defence to make its mark again in European competition. Come on, Dermot, cough up the cash to bring in the quality players the team needs and all will be forgiven."

Jokes and Concerns Over League Standards

William Hutchison from Aberdeen poked fun at Hearts with a pun on the scoreline: "I see a new Scottish delicacy along with deep fried foods has been invented on Sunday..BATTERED JAM TARTS."

Hugh McKirdy, however, raised broader concerns about the league's competitiveness. He said: "I don't like saying it and as an Aberdeen fan we're part of it, but the standard in our top league is getting poorer. Celtic's demolition of Hearts was mostly down to inept defending, albeit Celtic did their part. When all of our teams play in Europe though we're thoroughly spanked usually."

Rangers and Refereeing Under Scrutiny

Stephen Mulhern from Dumbarton predicted that Rangers manager Derek McInnes would have found the match uncomfortable viewing. He said: "I expect Derek McInnes quickly changed his telly over to a repeat episode of Columbo after watching Celtic take a two goal lead after only ten minutes. To win by such a margin against the league runners up was nothing short of sensational and even more frustrating for McInnes must have been that his former set piece coach was instrumental in the first two goals."

Stuart McLeod, meanwhile, defended Dundee's Ethan Hamilton after his booking in their draw with Rangers. Taking aim at referee Duncan Nicholson, he said: "Unusually I am on to complain about a decision that went in my team's favour. Ethan Hamilton was booked for Dundee on Saturday evening and in my opinion it was never a yellow card. I thought he was excellent in the engine room for Dundee and stupid yellow cards for these incidents curb the enthusiasm of that type of player. Gazza was one of my favourite Rangers players and always played with his arms up but he wouldn't last 10 minutes in this environment."

Manager Pressure at Hibs and Hearts

Dundee's fourth-place position under Steven Pressley has led to speculation about his future. Stephen Johnstone from Ardentinny suggested both Hibs and Hearts could be eyeing the gaffer. He said: "Steven Pressley, Dundee manager, gets a well deserved draw against Rangers but my fear Is Steven has potential to be a bigger manager with the right club, not being disrespectful. The way Hibs new manager Marink Reedijk is underperforming, taking them to the bottom of the Premiership. The Hibees Hierarchy may try to poach him from the Dens. Hibs are caught in a trap under the Dutchman and should have stuck with David Gray. Both Hearts and Hibs managers' coats on a shoogly peg."
