Former Liverpool and Tottenham defender Steven Caulker has revealed he received 49 offers, including three job offers, after a heartfelt LinkedIn post about his unemployment went viral. The 34-year-old, who retired in 2025 after a 16-year playing career, had earlier admitted struggling to land job interviews.
Career and Coaching Move
Caulker made over 400 appearances for numerous clubs during his career and represented both England and Sierra Leone at international level. After retiring, he moved into coaching and was named assistant manager at Turkish Super Lig outfit Konyaspor in February.
Following his departure from Konyaspor in September, Caulker remained out of work. On Sunday, he issued a public appeal to prospective employers after enduring a "difficult" few months.
Viral Appeal and Response
In his LinkedIn post, Caulker wrote: "Being unemployed is stressful. I've been here many times before, I'm used to the rollercoaster of emotions, but it doesn't make it any easier."
He added: "Applying for jobs for which I have all the qualifications yet am unable to get even an interview hurts, but that does not mean I should panic. Walt Disney was rejected over 300 times; rejection is part of most people's stories. The bit I find difficult is then turning down the jobs that do come my way which are not aligned with my goals."
Less than 48 hours after the post, Caulker said he had received a host of new opportunities, praising the "power of LinkedIn" for securing those proposals.
Offers and Next Steps
Caulker, who accumulated 123 Premier League appearances, listed his offers: 30+ podcast requests, 12 offers to invest in people's businesses, 4 events to attend, 3 potential job offers from different industries, and 100+ messages of support.
He described himself as "an aspiring Premier League manager with two years of coaching experience, seventeen years of playing experience, and a UEFA A license, while working towards my Pro license." Alongside coaching, he works as a radio and television pundit with Sky Sports, the BBC, Channel 4, and talkSPORT, and is a public speaker.
Caulker concluded: "One post won't land me my dream job; consistently showing up and doing the right thing will. If you are interested in knowing more, please send me a DM, and I will get back to you as soon as possible." He thanked everyone for their support and wished those in similar situations the best of luck.
