Casemiro has revealed that his wife was moved to tears when Manchester United supporters chanted for him to stay at Old Trafford for one more season. The Brazilian midfielder, 34, is set to leave the club when his contract expires this summer, following an agreement to scrap a clause that would have triggered a one-year extension.
During United's 3-1 victory over Aston Villa, fans chanted 'One more year' after Casemiro scored the opening goal with a header. The midfielder said: 'My wife already cried, the other day, when the fans were asking for one more year. So, I just want to enjoy it, enjoy all the moments and I will be a United fan for the rest of my life.'
Casemiro arrived from Real Madrid in 2022 for up to £70m and has made over 150 appearances, winning two major trophies. This season he has been a standout performer, missing only two matches and forming a strong partnership with Kobbie Mainoo.
The former Porto man had a clause in his contract that would have extended his stay if he started 35 Premier League matches this season. However, in January, Casemiro and the club agreed to waive the clause, formally confirming his departure at the end of the 2025/26 campaign.
Casemiro has seven matches left for United, starting with a Premier League clash against Leeds United on Monday, April 13. He expressed gratitude for the fans' affection, saying: 'I am hoping not to cry on my last day, as it is such a beautiful experience.'
