Casemiro bid an emotional farewell to Manchester United on Sunday, playing his final home game as the Red Devils beat Nottingham Forest 3-2 at Old Trafford. The 34-year-old Brazil captain, who will leave the club upon the expiry of his contract in June, was substituted in the second half by Michael Carrick and received a standing ovation from the supporters.
After the match, Casemiro addressed the fans on the pitch alongside his family and later posted a heartfelt statement on social media. 'There are places we pass through in life… and there are places that become part of who we are. Manchester will forever be my home,' he wrote. 'To the city, the club, and every supporter, my sincerest thank you. These past four years have been unforgettable.'
Casemiro joined United from Real Madrid in August 2022 for £60 million during Erik ten Hag's tenure. He helped the club secure the Carabao Cup and FA Cup, although his form dipped in his second and third seasons. This term, however, he has been outstanding, scoring nine goals. Carrick praised his professionalism, saying: 'I think he's been fantastic for us... to finish so strongly and see that connection with the supporters is really good to see.'
Casemiro has not yet announced his next move, but MLS side Inter Miami have expressed interest in signing him on a free transfer. The midfielder's departure marks the end of a four-year chapter at Old Trafford, where he celebrated two trophies and formed a strong bond with the fanbase.
