Bruno Guimaraes has expressed his gratitude after being named as Casemiro's successor by the Manchester United midfielder. The Newcastle United captain, valued at £69 million, has been linked with a move to Old Trafford to fill the void left by Casemiro's departure.
Ahead of Brazil's World Cup 2026 opener against Morocco, Guimaraes told AS: "It's certainly a privilege to hear those words from someone as successful as Casemiro. Honestly, I'm not thinking about that right now. My focus is entirely on this World Cup."
Casemiro first publicly praised Guimaraes in October 2023, calling him "a player who has been doing an exceptional job at Newcastle" and noting his performances in "the most difficult league in the world." The 33-year-old is expected to make way for Guimaraes in Brazil's midfield after this tournament.
Manchester United are reportedly in the market for a midfielder, with Guimaraes among several targets. The club is also pursuing Atalanta's Ederson in a £39 million deal, while West Ham's Mateus Fernandes and Bournemouth's Alex Scott are on their radar. Newcastle's financial situation may force a sale, as they failed to qualify for Europe and need to balance the books.
