Carrick rules out quitting Man Utd after Villa draw

Michael Carrick has confirmed he will not resign as Manchester United head coach following the 4-4 draw with Aston Villa at Old Trafford.

United twice trailed by two goals before recovering to claim a point in their final Premier League match before the November international break. The hosts fell 2-0 down after three minutes and 40 seconds, with Alysson and Nicolas Jackson putting Villa in front early on. Bruno Fernandes reduced the deficit from the penalty spot, and Youri Tielemans levelled just before half-time.

Second-half drama and late fightback

John McGinn scored from the spot three minutes into the second half, and Leon Goretzka made it 4-2 soon after. Two goals in second-half added time, from Joshua Zirkzee and Patrick Dorgu, ensured Carrick's side avoided defeat.

In his post-match interview with Sky Sports reporter Patrick Davison, Carrick was asked whether he could walk away from his position. The former Middlesbrough boss replied: "That's not going to happen."

Exchange over the club's situation

Davison said: "OK. What do you expect to happen? A club this big, in this situation, clearly there's going to be conversations. You're a football man, you know that better than me."

Carrick responded bluntly: "Is there?" Davison continued: "You would assume so, right?" The United coach again replied with a question, saying: "Would you?"

Throwing the question back to Carrick, Davison said: "What do you think, Michael?" Carrick replied: "Well, you're telling me what you think..." The reporter responded: "I'm asking you what you think. What do you expect to happen in the next couple of weeks?"

Carrick on moving forward

Carrick eventually answered: "We're in a situation where we haven't won enough games. But I expect to move forward and keep working on the things we've been working on and showing a lot of the good in the game today. Tighten up on a few mistakes and win football matches."
