Michael Carrick has stated that Manchester United can achieve success under the Glazer family's ownership, despite thousands of fans preparing to protest against the American owners and Sir Jim Ratcliffe this weekend. The 1958 group has organised a demonstration ahead of Sunday's match against Fulham, with around 6,000 supporters expected to attend, as faith in Ratcliffe's ability to drive change has waned.
Carrick, who has guided United to back-to-back wins against Manchester City and Arsenal in his first two games as interim manager, said he has no issue with the planned protests. He emphasised that the team remains unaffected by off-field matters and thanked fans for their unwavering support. 'I don't think it connects with the two wins,' he said. 'I fully respect the supporters. They're incredible.'
The former United midfielder described the Glazers as 'great owners' in his 2018 autobiography and believes the club can still thrive under their stewardship. 'Off the pitch, whatever goes on around the club, it's not really for us as a playing group to worry about and let that affect performances,' Carrick added.
Discontent with the Glazers has been a long-running issue since their arrival in 2005, with protests intensifying in recent years. Missteps since Ineos became a minority investor in February 2024 have further damaged their standing with fans. However, Carrick insisted the focus remains on building momentum on the pitch.
