Michael Carrick has revealed he has not been offered any assurances over his future as Manchester United head coach, with the club now in the Premier League relegation zone.
Manchester United host Aston Villa on Sunday afternoon, and the stakes are high for Carrick, whose position remains in doubt following a disappointing start to the season. United produced a spirited comeback against Roma in the Champions League on Tuesday night to end a run of nine games without a win across all competitions, but the crisis has deepened ahead of Villa's visit to Old Trafford.
Relegation zone drop
As a result of Nottingham Forest's win over Manchester City on Saturday evening, Man Utd have dropped into the relegation zone and are two points from safety. Only a win over Villa will ensure United do not spend the entirety of the November international break in the bottom three, though defeat to Unai Emery's side will likely see calls for Carrick to be sacked grow even louder.
Carrick has admitted that he has not been told he is certain to remain Man Utd head coach after the international break, but says plans are in place for the two-week period.
Carrick's comments
"No, no. Just carry on as absolute normal," he told reporters. "Maybe three or four senior players will be in and around [the training ground], but we'll certainly train next week and maybe have the weekend off.
"We'll see how that develops, who's left behind, who's with us and what they need. But there'll certainly be training next week.
"Whatever happens, what's going to happen is going to happen in terms of the game (against Villa), and we've got to prepare right, looking forward to it.
"I said the other night I was really looking forward to the game going into it, I genuinely was. I wasn't making anything up there for you.
"Playing at home on the back of the other night, the supporters hopefully looking forward to coming and energised and feeling good about what they might see.
"And we've got to repay that."
