Michael Carrick held clear-the-air talks with Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes on Tuesday, following a week of tension at the club.
Fernandes was an unused substitute as United lost 3-0 against Bournemouth last weekend, losing his starting place after questioning Carrick's tactics following defeat to Como in the Champions League.
Board Backs Carrick
United's board weighed up Carrick's future after the Bournemouth loss and decided to give him more time. When the squad returned for training on Tuesday, Carrick and Fernandes sat down for clear-the-air talks.
It is understood the matter is now considered closed by Carrick. Club figures have also noted Fernandes as being back to his "best version" over the last 48 hours after a challenging week on and off the pitch.
Family Burglary
Fernandes' family home was burgled while United played Como in Italy, and United have provided support to the midfielder and his family.
Fernandes was substituted in the 66th minute against Como, and he shook his head as he walked around the pitch. Carrick did not acknowledge the midfielder when he made his way back to the bench.
Public Exchange
During an interview with TNT Sports after full-time, Fernandes said: "It's a decision from the staff to not press man-to-man and sometimes leave space behind and try to get the ball."
When Fernandes was asked if Carrick got his tactics wrong, he said: "That's on the manager and staff to see it, not me."
Carrick hit back at Fernandes' comments during his post-Como press conference. The United boss played down the situation when he spoke at Carrington two days later, but still dropped Fernandes to face Bournemouth.
Fernandes was last outright dropped in November 2021, when Carrick dropped him against Villarreal in the Champions League during his caretaker stint following Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's dismissal.
After the Bournemouth defeat, Fernandes' official Instagram account liked a post reading: "Never push a loyal person to the point where they no longer care."
