Michael Carrick faced an awkward exchange with Sky Sports over his position as Manchester United manager following Sunday's draw with Aston Villa at Old Trafford.
United came from 2-0 and 4-2 down, with Patrick Dorgu's 96th-minute equaliser securing an unlikely draw. Despite the comeback, the point was not enough to lift United out of the relegation zone.
Carrick's future under scrutiny
Widespread reports indicated Carrick was given the matches against Roma, which United won, and Aston Villa before a decision on his future was expected ahead of the international break.
Asked by Sky Sports' Pat Davison about the prospect of talks with club chiefs in the coming days, Carrick responded in a spiky manner.
The interview exchange
When asked what he expected to happen over the next few weeks, Carrick replied: "It's not going to happen, no."
Pressed on whether there would be conversation, he answered: "Is there?" When the reporter said it would be assumed so, Carrick asked: "Would you?"
Asked directly what he thought, Carrick said: "You're telling me, what do you think?"
He then added: "You know the situation, we haven't won enough games. But I expect to move forward with things we've been working on, showing a lot of the good from today tighten up a few mistakes and win some football matches."
