Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has expressed doubts over the club's reported pursuit of Paris Saint-Germain winger Bradley Barcola, insisting the Reds need a right-sided attacker instead.
Carragher's Concerns Over Barcola Target
Liverpool are determined to strengthen their attacking options this summer following Mohamed Salah's departure. While names such as Yan Diomande and Nico Williams have been linked, the focus has shifted to Barcola, with the 23-year-old reportedly keen on a move after turning down a new contract at PSG. A bid of over £110 million is expected.
Carragher, however, is unconvinced. “No, he plays on the opposite flank!” he wrote on social media. “LFC currently have three players who could play from the left in Rio/Gakpo/Wirtz & no one who plays from the right.”
When asked if academy graduate Rio Ngumoha could switch to the right, Carragher replied: “Well Rio has always played from the left so that’s obviously his best position. Gakpo should move really but who knows. I’m interested to see where Wirtz plays, if he’s 10 Dom plays CM. I’m not sure about that. Need a right winger desperately!”
Liverpool's Transfer Plans
Liverpool have already added to their attack with the signing of Victor Munoz from Osasuna, a World Cup winner who scored seven goals for the Spanish side last season. Manager Andoni Iraola acknowledged the need for a winger.
“No, I think it’s difficult to say a number when the market is open, and you have to be always open to new options to improve the squad,” Iraola said. “There are obvious situations that we know where we need to sign players. A winger, for example – we definitely need to sign a winger. But there are other situations that we will have to analyse what the market gives you, what’s the cost, how we also see the players we have. We have some tricky positions where we have injured players that we trust but is still not the ideal situation. So, it will depend on a lot of things.”
