Carragher Names Liverpool's Biggest Title Rivals

Jamie Carragher has insisted Liverpool must sign a defender in the January transfer window to sustain their Premier League title challenge. The Reds currently lead the table by three points after a 4-2 win over Newcastle, but injuries to Joel Matip, Kostas Tsimikas and Andy Robertson have exposed defensive frailties.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Carragher compared the current squad to the 2020 title-winning team, noting they have lost only one league game in 30 since last season. However, he still considers Manchester City favourites for the title, urging Liverpool not to waste their opportunity.

Carragher believes Liverpool have an edge over rivals Arsenal: a manager who has won the title before and world-class players. He stressed that Arsenal and Aston Villa are yet to prove themselves at the highest level.

Manager Jurgen Klopp acknowledged the team's position but said improvement is still needed. 'It feels better, no doubt about that. It's a process,' he said, adding that being top is better than sixth but both require work.
