Carabao Cup quarter-final draw: Liverpool face Bournemouth, Fleetwood get Everton or Newcastle
Carabao Cup QF draw: Liverpool vs Bournemouth, Fleetwood await

The Carabao Cup quarter-final draw has been completed, with Liverpool drawn against Bournemouth and Fleetwood Town, the League Two side that eliminated Arsenal, set to face either Everton or Newcastle.

Fourth-round results shape the draw

Midweek fourth-round action began on Tuesday as Arsenal were knocked out on penalties by Fleetwood Town, who sit 17th in League Two. Mikel Arteta's Premier League champions trailed 1-0 at half-time, and although Viktor Gyokeres equalised five minutes into the second half, they could not win the game, a task made harder by Max Dowman's red card.

Bruno Guimaraes missed the decisive spot kick for the visitors as Conor Haughey stepped up to smash in the winning penalty, with the side 84 places lower in the English football pyramid causing one of the biggest shocks in modern football history.

Liverpool and Man City progress on penalties

On Wednesday, Liverpool beat Chelsea on penalties in a shootout that featured some of the most clinical spot kicks and some of the worst, particularly from Wesley Fofana, whose dreadful miss ended the contest.

Manchester City also booked their place by beating Brighton on penalties. Elsewhere, Bournemouth battered Aston Villa 3-0 at home, Sunderland held off Brentford's comeback to win 3-2 at the Stadium of Light, and Crystal Palace beat Fulham 1-0 at Craven Cottage.
