Burnley Conceals Critical Fan Posts on X After Everton Defeat Sparks Fury
Burnley Football Club has taken the controversial step of hiding posts on X that were critical of manager Scott Parker, following a wave of fan anger after their 2-0 defeat by Everton on Tuesday night. The Clarets shared a video of Parker's post-match interview on their official account, but the response from supporters was overwhelmingly negative, leading the club to obscure many of the replies.
Fan Outrage and Club Response
Underneath the video, furious supporters aired their grievances, branding the performance 'embarrassing' and calling for Parker to be sacked. With such a surge of negativity, the admin of the Burnley account chose to hide the critical replies. A feature on X that allows users to see which messages have been hidden clearly displayed the posts the club wanted to obscure.
One hidden post read: 'Sack him. Strip the squad. Take time to replace him with someone with bigger b******s. Rebuild. Go again.' Another wrote: 'Hide this reply if Parker should be sacked.' A third took a similar approach, adding: 'We should sack Parker. Hide this reply if you agree!' Burnley duly hid this reply, along with dozens of others, prompting the user to respond: 'Ladies and gentlemen, we got em.'
Parker's Disappointing Assessment
In the interview, a downcast Parker admitted: 'We fell short, we fell well short in terms of everything about our game. There was nothing in our game that was remotely encouraging or pleasing really. And at this present moment in time, you know, we're trying to work out what the reasons are.' He continued, 'I just thought we looked very, very flat. We were poor on the ball and never really posed any sort of problems and at times their quality was obviously far superior really. So, a really disappointing night for us. I don't know whether it was the weekend, maybe it took a lot out of us in terms of the general effort and the physicality of what that game was, the emotional state of that game. But for sure we looked way short tonight.'
Parker was referring to Burnley's 4-3 home defeat by Brentford, where they had a late equaliser ruled out. The loss against Everton on Tuesday night compounded those woes, and for many fans, it appears their patience with the manager has run out, as evidenced by all the replies the club chose to hide online.
Relegation Fears Loom Large
Burnley are currently 19th in the Premier League table with 19 points and lie eight points from safety, making relegation back to the Championship look almost certain. This dire situation has only fueled the fan frustration, leading to the online backlash and the club's subsequent decision to hide critical posts. The incident highlights the growing tension between the team's management and its supporters as the season nears its end.
