Bruno Fernandes Wins FWA Footballer of the Year for Man Utd Form
Bruno Fernandes Named FWA Footballer of the Year

Bruno Fernandes has been named the Football Writers' Association's Footballer of the Year, capping a stellar season for the Manchester United captain. The Portugal international secured 45 per cent of the vote, edging out Arsenal's Declan Rice by 28 votes in a tightly contested race.

Fernandes' Record-Breaking Season

Fernandes has provided 19 assists in the Premier League this season, with three games remaining, putting him on course to break the record of 20 assists jointly held by Thierry Henry and Kevin De Bruyne. His performances have been instrumental in Manchester United's resurgence under Michael Carrick, propelling the club into Champions League contention. Notably, Fernandes was the only Manchester United player to receive votes, becoming the club's first winner of the award since Wayne Rooney in 2010.

Bunny Shaw's Double Triumph

In the women's category, Manchester City striker Bunny Shaw claimed the award for a second time after a landslide victory. Her goals have been pivotal in City's first Women's Super League title in a decade, ending Chelsea's dominance. Shaw also leads the WSL goal charts. Arsenal's Alessia Russo, last year's winner, finished second, while Chelsea's Lauren James took third.

FWA chair John Cross praised both winners, stating: "Both players have been so influential in their team's performances this season. They are also such great examples and role models in the game. Bruno is on course to break records and has thrilled us with his skill. Bunny is such a worthy winner. She is a fabulous person and an outstanding choice and player."

The awards will be presented at a dinner in London on May 19.
