Tottenham Hotspur are considering a move for Crystal Palace forward Eberechi Eze, believing the 26-year-old would be open to a switch to north London. The club have held discussions about making Eze a marquee signing for their new head coach, Thomas Frank, who is expected to take charge ahead of next season.
Eze has long been on Spurs' radar, and the club's links to the CAA Base agency, which represents the player, are said to be strong. The agency also counts Tottenham captain Son Heung-min, James Maddison and Pape Sarr among its clients. Spurs have already completed the permanent signing of Mathys Tel from Bayern Munich for £30m, but Eze would cost considerably more, with reports suggesting his contract contains a £68m release clause.
The England international finished the season in outstanding form, scoring nine goals in 13 matches for Palace, including a brace in the 2-0 league win at Tottenham and the winner in the FA Cup final against Manchester City. He also netted his first goal for England in the World Cup qualifying victory over Latvia in March, and has been used in various attacking roles by England manager Thomas Tuchel, including as a second striker.
Eze's future at Selhurst Park remains uncertain, with Palace likely to face a battle to keep hold of their star player. Meanwhile, Tottenham are also strengthening defensively, having agreed a £5m deal for Japan international defender Kota Takai from Kawasaki Frontale, with the 20-year-old centre-back set to join next month.
Son Heung-min's long-term future at the club is unclear, as he enters the final year of his contract at 34, with reported interest from the Saudi Pro League. Eze, who can play on the wing or as a number 10, would represent a significant statement of intent as Spurs look to build under Frank.
