Boy, 12, Dies After Collapsing at Football Training in California

A 12-year-old boy has died after collapsing during football training in San Bernardino, California. Adriel Enriquez went into cardiac arrest and, despite paramedics rushing to the scene, was later pronounced dead.

His uncle, Joshua Gutierrez, described the tragedy as 'every parent’s worst nightmare' on a GoFundMe page set up to support the family. 'There are no words that make sense when a child is taken too soon,' he wrote. 'What started as a normal afternoon doing what he loved turned into every parent’s worst nightmare.'

Adriel played for Platinum IE, a local club, which paid tribute to him as 'the sweetest, most gentle and shy soul'. The club added: 'He showed up with heart, with passion, and with a smile.' A vigil is being held in his honour.

The GoFundMe page has raised more than $66,000 (£49,000) to help Adriel's parents, Ricky and Brenda, and their two younger sons, with the majority going towards funeral costs. The club remembered him as 'Forever our #23'.
