Manchester United dropped into the Premier League bottom three ahead of their home game against Aston Villa, a position that left former striker Dimitar Berbatov in disbelief.
Michael Carrick's side have endured a difficult start to the season, with a run of seven league games without a win leaving them only out of the bottom three on goal difference. That changed on Saturday evening when Nottingham Forest recorded a shock 3-1 victory over Manchester City.
The result saw Oliver Glasner's side climb above United in the table ahead of Sunday's match against Aston Villa at Old Trafford. Berbatov was part of BEIN's coverage of the match at the City Ground.
Berbatov's Reaction to United's Position
Speaking after the game, he gave his reaction to United's position: "I don't believe it, but the way United are playing sometimes they deserve to be there honestly." He then put his head in his hands and added: "Tomorrow they still have a game."
The match against Aston Villa couldn't have started worse for United. They found themselves 1-0 down after just one minute thanks to Alysson's goal. Just two minutes later, Villa doubled their lead through Nicolas Jackson. The goal prompted boos and chants of discontent from the Old Trafford crowd.
United Fight Back but Remain in Bottom Three
It was the earliest that United have ever found themselves 2-0 down in a Premier League game. But they were able to fight their way back into the match when Boubacar Kamara brought down Matheus Cunha in the penalty area. Referee Chris Kavanagh pointed to the spot, with VAR confirming the decision. Bruno Fernandes sent Zion Suzuki the wrong way to halve the deficit.
Just as against Roma in the week, that was the springboard for United to push for an equaliser. They got just that in the 44th minute when Youri Tielemans scored his first United goal against his former club.
It was another quick start to the second half, as Aston Villa were awarded a penalty for a foul by Diogo Dalot on Alysson. John McGinn restored Villa's lead from the spot in just the 48th minute. Villa restored their two-goal lead as Leon Goretzka made the most of Leny Yoro's mistake from a set-piece.
Late Escape but Relegation Concerns Remain
United did get a goal back in added time through Joshua Zirkzee, and it was a late escape show as Patrick Dorgu snatched a stoppage-time equaliser to make it 4-4.
Despite the late goal, United remain in the bottom three, one point below Coventry City in 17th position. They will stay there over the international break and are back in action on Sunday 22 November when they travel to take on Liverpool at Anfield.
