Rangers will send Ben Godfrey for a scan on Monday after the on-loan Atalanta defender limped off in Friday's 1-1 Premiership opener against Dundee United.
Mailsport understands the Ibrox club is hoping for a positive outcome that would limit Godfrey's absence to two or three weeks. If the injury is worse, Derek McInnes could face a defensive shortage for Thursday's Europa League qualifier against Jagiellonia Bialystok.
Defensive concerns mount
McInnes has said he wants two more defenders before the transfer window shuts, even though South African centre-back Olwethu Makhanya has already arrived from Philadelphia Union for £3 million. The 22-year-old is also a doubt for the first leg in Poland because of visa issues.
With Godfrey almost certainly out, McInnes would be left with only Emmanuel Fernandez at the heart of his defence. John Souttar is currently out of the picture and set to leave Ibrox, which could see Dujon Sterling or Ross McCrorie moved into the middle for the European tie.
Reinforcements and exits
McInnes is desperate to add strength after Rangers dropped points on opening night in Tayside. Wide players remain a priority, with Brighton's Amario Cozier-Duberry and Coventry City's Jahnoa Markelo still on the radar.
Outgoings are also needed. Rangers are waiting for Albanian international Nedim Bajrami to join Al-Taawoun on loan, while Oliver Antman was sold to Anderlecht last week. Ross McCausland, Clinton Nsiala, Jose Cifuentes and Lyall Cameron are all allowed to leave.
