Jude Bellingham is reported to have played a role in convincing Manchester United teenager JJ Gabriel to leave the club for Real Madrid. Gabriel's future has been the subject of intense speculation, with a growing expectation that the 16-year-old could leave Old Trafford.
In September, it emerged that Gabriel had expressed a desire to leave United and have his registration cancelled, which would have made him a free agent. Since then, speculation has continued over whether he will leave and which club could be his destination.
Madrid Close to Agreeing January Deal
Real Madrid have emerged as the most likely club to sign Gabriel, with reports this week suggesting a deal is close to being agreed for him to move to the La Liga giants in the January transfer window. Spanish outlet Sport has reported that Bellingham has had a “significant role” in attempting to convince Gabriel to sign for Madrid.
The report also claims that Bellingham will become Gabriel's “mentor” once the teenager makes the switch to the Spanish capital. If Gabriel leaves United, it will reportedly be some time before he features for Jose Mourinho's first team, with the playmaker instead set to play for Madrid's reserve side, Real Madrid Castilla.
United Surprised by Transfer Reports
Despite reports suggesting Gabriel is close to becoming a Madrid player, it is understood that United have been surprised by claims that a transfer is imminent. The club are also yet to be in contact with Madrid about a deal, despite suggestions to the contrary.
United would be due compensation if Gabriel signs for Madrid, with the fee expected to be only around £100,000-£300,000. This is despite reports suggesting Madrid would be willing to pay up to around £8.5 million to sign Gabriel.
