David Beckham shared an emotional moment with a five-year-old boy with Down's syndrome, hugging him after a high-five before the youngster walked onto the pitch as Inter Miami's mascot. The meeting took place at Miami Freedom Park on Wednesday, where Inter Miami faced fellow US team Cincinnati.
An emotional locker room meeting
Footage shared by Huddy's mother, influencer Melanie Droubay, shows the excited youngster, wearing an Inter Miami shirt, rushing at the 51-year-old after entering the team's locker room. Beckham gave him an enthusiastic high-five before wrapping him in a warm hug and taking his hand to show him around.
Huddy was treated to a brief tour of the room and was even allowed to sit on the chair belonging to Lionel Messi, who is contracted with the team until the end of 2028.
'Everything I could have dreamed of'
Melanie welcomed the display, saying the meeting was "everything I could have dreamed of and more." She wrote alongside the post: "I have no words. Just tears in my eyes. Watching Huddy meet Mr. David in person was everything I could have dreamed of and more."
"He was a little shy at first but quickly warmed up with a high five and a hug and after that, they were best buddies. So grateful for David Beckham and his team for making this all possible."
On the pitch with Messi
Huddy then walked onto the pitch alongside top team scorer Messi before sitting in on the game, which ended in a draw. His day continued with more Inter activities as he returned to David.
In a post on Instagram, the two were seen enjoying a run on the pitch wearing Miami shirts emblazoned with the number 23, David's team number when he played for Real Madrid.
Beckham also spoke warmly about the encounter, writing in his own post: "Tonight was a night to remember for us all in miami, we had a very special guest come and visit us with the biggest smile and the warmest heart. Thank you to Huddy's Mom, dad & brothers for sharing these special moments with us x Mr David was very happy."
