Beckford tells Barry to channel Lukaku physicality at Everton
Beckford: Barry must channel Lukaku physicality

Former Everton striker Jermaine Beckford has said he is not worried by the chances Thierno Barry is missing but wants the Frenchman to add more physicality to his game, following the example of his idol Romelu Lukaku.

Speaking to the ECHO via FreeBets, Beckford acknowledged the difficult situation at Everton, where Barry is the only senior striker after Beto was sold on transfer deadline day and a £40million move for Folarin Balogun from Monaco collapsed late in the window.

Barry's goal record

Beckford pointed out that Barry has scored three goals in seven Premier League games and six in nine in all competitions, describing that as "almost one in two" and "two in three" respectively.

However, statisticians have counted that Barry has missed 12 big chances in the Premier League, four more than the next highest, Rayan of Bournemouth on eight, followed by Bryan Mbeumo of Manchester United on six.

Physicality and comparisons

Beckford compared Barry's physical attributes to Lukaku, noting his 6ft 5in frame, but said he would like to see more physicality from him, adding: "I like to beat people up."

He also referenced Dominic Calvert-Lewin's fine form at Leeds United, saying players like him and Erling Haaland have high scoring percentages per chance, but he does not expect that to continue all season.

Beckford concluded that Barry's team-mates are starting to understand his strengths after almost a year and a half at the club, and that playing regularly helps them learn how to supply him.
