Ollie Bearman Breaks Silence on Ferrari Speculation Amid Hamilton Struggles

British Formula 1 driver Ollie Bearman has directly addressed mounting rumours about a potential return to Ferrari, firmly stating his focus remains exclusively on his current team, Haas. The 20-year-old racer, who made his sensational F1 debut with Ferrari two years ago at just 18, finds himself at the centre of speculation as seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton endures a challenging start with the Italian team.

From Reserve Driver to Points Scorer

Bearman's remarkable journey to Formula 1 prominence began unexpectedly in 2024 when, as Ferrari's reserve driver, he was called up to replace the ill Carlos Sainz at the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix. The young Englishman seized his opportunity with both hands, finishing an impressive seventh to become one of the youngest points scorers in the sport's history. This performance immediately marked him as a driver of significant potential.

"My focus is not on those rumours, it's on the current project," Bearman declared during an appearance on the High Performance Podcast. When asked how much attention he pays to speculation about returning to Ferrari, his response was unequivocal: "Zero. Nothing."

Hamilton's Ferrari Nightmare Fuels Speculation

The rumours connecting Bearman to Ferrari have gained momentum following Lewis Hamilton's difficult debut season with the Scuderia. The 41-year-old British veteran finished sixth in the drivers' standings without securing a single podium finish - the first such season in his illustrious career. Hamilton trailed teammate Charles Leclerc by more than 80 points, raising questions about his future with the team.

Sky F1 pitlane reporter Ted Kravitz stated in November that it was "clear as day" Bearman would eventually replace Hamilton. This assessment echoed earlier comments from former Haas team principal Guenther Steiner, who described the 20-year-old as the "obvious candidate" when a Ferrari seat becomes available.

Building Momentum with Haas

While speculation swirls around his future, Bearman has been quietly building an impressive resume with Haas. Last season, he finished 13th in the drivers' standings, ahead of teammate Esteban Ocon, and delivered a standout performance in Mexico where his fourth-place finish equalled Haas' best ever Grand Prix result.

"I think I've been lucky in a way to have gotten that call two years ago and to do the race," Bearman reflected. "And ever since then there have been those rumours and those things coming out, so it's kind of just normal."

The Pressure of Ferrari's Legacy

F1 commentator Mark Gallagher highlighted the unique pressures facing drivers at Ferrari, suggesting this could be a make-or-break year for Hamilton. "The pressure factor has been responsible for a lot of Ferrari's struggles over the years," Gallagher told The Express. "So, this could be something of a make-or-break year."

Gallagher noted that while drivers like Fernando Alonso have proven it's possible to compete into their forties, Hamilton's continuation in the sport likely depends on having competitive machinery. "He won't want to continue if he's not competitive and not driving a competitive car," Gallagher added.

Maintaining Focus Amid the Noise

Bearman revealed his strategy for dealing with the constant speculation: simply avoiding it. "First of all I don't even see them because you have to go on Autosport or whatever to find them," he explained. "So I don't go out looking for them and that's the best way... hopefully we can do good things in 2026."

The young driver's pragmatic approach reflects a maturity beyond his years as he navigates the intense spotlight of Formula 1. With the 2026 season underway, all eyes will be on both Bearman's development with Haas and Hamilton's efforts to reverse his fortunes with Ferrari.
