Bayern Munich are set to pocket £17 million from Manchester United's pursuit of Joshua Zirkzee, thanks to a 50 per cent sell-on clause inserted when the forward left for Bologna in 2022. The Red Devils have agreed personal terms with the Dutch striker and face a decision on whether to trigger his £34 million release clause, which must be paid in full.
The 23-year-old, who spent five years in Bayern's academy and made 17 senior appearances, has flourished at Bologna, netting 12 times in 37 appearances last season. Currently at Euro 2024 with the Netherlands, Zirkzee made his tournament debut against Turkey and remained coy when asked about his future, simply replying: 'I don't know, let's see.'
Manchester United have made Zirkzee their priority striker target to support Rasmus Hojlund, who scored 16 goals last season. The club's recruitment team believes Zirkzee's ability to link play, receive possession deep, and take on defenders will complement the Danish striker and ease the goalscoring burden after United managed only 57 Premier League goals in a disappointing eighth-place finish.
