Huddersfield Town produced a major upset by knocking out Leicester City in a penalty shootout after a 2-2 draw in the Carabao Cup first round at the Accu Stadium. Leicester had taken the lead nine minutes after the break through Hamza Choudhury, but Huddersfield levelled when Dan Vost headed in the rebound after Dion Charles's penalty had been saved. Harry Winks curled in a second for Leicester, only for Cameron Ashia to equalise again with a fine effort, sending the tie to spot-kicks. Huddersfield will now visit Sunderland in the second round.
Birmingham City secured a 2-1 victory over Sheffield United with Jay Stansfield scoring a deflected winner three minutes from time. Kyogo Furuhashi had put Birmingham ahead early on, but Gustavo Hamer's extraordinary 50-yard drive brought the Blades level. Birmingham will host Port Vale in round two.
Sheffield Wednesday advanced after beating Bolton Wanderers 4-2 on penalties following a 3-3 draw. Pierce Charles saved two kicks, and Liam Palmer converted the decisive penalty.
