Marcus Rashford has told Manchester United academy prospect JJ Gabriel that he is 'next up' after the youngster congratulated him on winning La Liga with Barcelona. Rashford scored a spectacular free kick as the Catalan giants clinched the title with victory over Real Madrid.
The 28-year-old, on loan at Barcelona, has revitalised his career under Hansi Flick, registering 14 goals and 14 assists this season. Gabriel, still only 15, has impressed for United's under-18s with 27 goals and assists in 26 appearances, helping them reach the FA Youth Cup final.
Rashford responded to Gabriel's 'top' comment on Instagram, but hopes not to face him in future as he seeks a permanent move to Barcelona. The England international said after the title win: 'I came here to win. I want to win as many things as I can and this is one more to add.'
Barcelona hold a £26million option to buy Rashford, but his salary remains a stumbling block despite his willingness to take a pay cut. The club may also consider another loan deal, with Rashford having one year left on his United contract.
